The journey to the Kuala Gandah elephant sanctuary commences with a visit to Batu Caves, a magnificent complex of limestone formations that have been taking shape for over 400 million years. The caves are a sacred site for Hindus and are home to several shrines and temples.

As we arrive at the entrance, we will be greeted with a breathtaking sight of the towering staircase comprising 272 steps leading to the upper caves. You will be able to immerse yourself in the fascinating history and religious significance of the various shrines and temples nestled inside.

The largest of the caves, covering an impressive 250 meters long, is the upper cave which boasts several Hindu shrines and awe-inspiring statues. Took its name from the Malay word ‘Batu’ which means rock and after the Batu River which flows nearby, located approximately 13km north of KL City. Batu Caves is actually a limestone hill that has a series of caves. A few of the caves are popular with Hindu shrines & the biggest is dedicated to Lord Murugan which has made this cave one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India and a focal point of the Thaipusam Festival.

  • Full payment in cash on the tour can be arranged. Only apply for a booking made less than 10 hours before the tour start.

Refund

  • Deposits and payments are fully refundable in the event customer change their mind.
  • To receive a full refund, a minimum of 12 hours notice of cancellation prior to the tour’s scheduled start time is required.
